Arriving late, leaving early: planning around 2pm and 11am

Check-in is 2pm and check-out is 11am. What that means if your flight lands at midnight or leaves at dawn, and what to do with your bags.

Check-in is from 2pm and check-out is by 11am. Most trips do not fit neatly inside those hours, so here is what actually happens at the edges.

Arriving after dark, or very late

Nothing to arrange. Your door code already works from 2pm on your arrival day and keeps working through the night, so a midnight arrival is the same as an afternoon one: you go to your room and let yourself in.

The gate is manned overnight and the desk is staffed, so there is somebody to ask if you would rather not find your way alone at that hour.

Two things worth doing before you travel:

  • Save your code offline. Screenshot it. A code in an email you cannot open because there is no data at the gate is not much use.
  • Have the address written down, not just the booking reference, for whoever is driving you.

Arriving before 2pm

You are welcome to arrive early and we will get you in as soon as a room is ready, but we cannot promise it: the person in that room last night checks out at 11am, and it has to be cleaned properly after that.

The thing to know is that early check-in is not a matter of waiting for your code to catch up. If the desk checks you in early, your code is brought forward there and then and works immediately. So the honest advice is: come in, speak to the desk, and leave your bags with us if the room is not ready. There is no reason to sit outside with a code that has not started.

Leaving after 11am

Tell the desk the night before rather than on the morning. A late check-out is sometimes free and sometimes charged, and it depends entirely on whether somebody is arriving into your room that day. Asked the evening before, it is usually a yes. Asked at 11am on the day, it is whatever the arrivals list allows.

Your code stops working at 11am, which catches people out. If you have agreed a later departure, make sure the desk has actually extended it, or you will be locked out of a room you are still paying for.

Leaving before dawn

Common, and genuinely easy. You do not need to see anybody: settle the bill the night before, leave when you like, and there is no key to hand back. That is the part a keyless property makes genuinely better than a hotel.

If you want a taxi for five in the morning, ask the desk the evening before so it is arranged rather than hoped for.

Extending while you are here

If you decide to stay longer, tell the desk as early as you can. Two things have to happen and only one of them is money: the room has to be free for the extra nights, and your door code has to be extended to match.

The second is the one that catches people. A code is issued for the nights you booked, so an extension that is paid for but not applied to the lock leaves you outside a room you have paid for. Ask the desk to confirm both, and test your code on the door before the original check-out time rather than after it.

If your plans change entirely

Cancellations and changes are easier the earlier they happen, and our terms are on the cancellation page rather than buried in a confirmation email.

If you are simply arriving a day later than planned, say so rather than letting the first night pass unused. A booking that nobody turns up for is treated as a no-show, and a no-show is the most expensive way to change your plans.

Where bags go

Luggage can be left with the desk on either side, before check-in or after check-out, on the ordinary day you are arriving or leaving. Ask when you drop them off roughly when you will be back.

The short version

  • Arriving any time after 2pm: just go to your room.
  • Arriving before 2pm: come to the desk, leave bags, get in as soon as a room is ready.
  • Leaving after 11am: ask the night before, and check your code was extended.
  • Leaving before dawn: settle up the night before and go.

How the door codes work goes into the code window in more detail. To book, check your dates, and for anything specific about a tight connection, talk to the desk — it is staffed around the clock.
